Why Join Scouts?

Cub Scouting gives your child purpose. The Cub Scouting program is designed to help your child grow in 10 key developmental areas; Character Development, Spiritual Growth, Good Citizenship, Sportsmanship and Fitness, Family Understanding, Respectful Relationships, Personal Achievement, Friendly Service, Fun and Adventure, and Preparation for Boy Scouts. In addition to the 10 key developmental areas your scout will also have the opportunity to be involved with many fun and exciting activities throughout the year.

Scouting Questions

What are the age requirements for scouts?

Cub Scouting is for boys in the first through fifth grades, or 7 to 10 years of age. Boys who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade, can no longer join Cub Scouting, but they may be eligible to join the Boy Scouting or Venturing program.

How can I become an adult volunteer in Scouting?

Express your interest to the pack leaders—the Cubmaster, chartered organization representative, or members of the unit committee. While there's no guarantee that a specific role or position will be available—and there may be a selection process among several candidates even if the position is currently vacant—there is usually some way in which you can contribute, and most units are glad for any offer of help.

Where are the meetings held?

Our monthly pack meeting is held in the cafeteria of Leisure Park Elementary at the designated date and time. There are also weekly den meetings which are held at a place and time that is determined by your den leader, but usually at St. Stephens United Methodist Church. Den meetings are generally held on Mondays from 6-7 PM.

Can parents be involved in den meetings?

Of course. While the den meetings are intended to be an activity for the individual boys, Pack 413 encourages parental involvement whenever possible. Please keep in mind that siblings can often present a distraction during the den meetings and should be kept occupied with other activities if they must attend. Each den's policies on sibling involvement in activities varies so please ask your den leader if you have any questions.

What supplies and equipment are needed for scouting?

At minimum, each boy in Cub Scouting will need a uniform and a handbook. Each year, the handbook changes, as does the cap and neckerchief, but other uniform parts remain the same for at least the first three years. When a boy enters a Webelos den, he may need to obtain a new uniform if the parents in the den opt for the khaki-and-olive uniform.

Additional supplies and equipment may be needed for certain activities such as camping trips or field days. What equipment is needed for these activities will depend largely on your child, and his expectations and requirements while undertaking the activities.

Where Can I get my scout's uniform and supplies?
